The patchy growth mode: Modulation of the Au-Au interface via phenynyl ligands

Surface ligands play critical roles in nano-synthesis and thus it is of great importance expanding the scope suitable ligands. In this work, we explore phenynyl modulating Au-Au interface when growing Au domains on seeds. A patchy growth mode observed where emerging islands are flat-laying with holes branches. This distinctively different from conventional facet-controlled using weak ligands, non-wetting island strong Through manipulating molecular structure packing seeds, overgrown continuously tuned, patches to islands, extending plasmon absorption peak into near-infrared spectral range. We believe that new ligand intermediate affinity unusual would expand control both synthesis application.
